What happened to the native american named Danny, off of the 1980's TV show "Hey Dude"?

Joe Torres is a Mexican-American actor best known for portraying a Native American known as Danny Lightfoot on the Nickelodeon TV show Hey Dude, which as of August 2006 is his only screen role according to The Internet Movie Database. For a time, the Internet Movie database listed an additional role as "Drunken Indian" in a deleted scene from a film called Hindustani as well as reported that he had died of kidney failure in 2004. These details have since been removed.

In fact, rumors of his death from kidney failure due to alcohol consumption have recurred periodically since at least 2004. Although the above statement is obviously false, variants of these rumors are especially prevalent in the Internet Movie Database and Hey Dude fan communities. Interestingly, no official news sources have been found that confirm or disconfirm his death.

Furthermore, none of the other actors or crew members are known to still associate with him, which makes Joe Torres' present life a mystery.

"It's a little wild and a little strange...

when you make your home out on the range.

So, start your horse and come along.

'Cause you can't get a ride if you can't hold on.

Singin' yippee kai aie ay. (Yippee kai aie what?)

Like the cowboys say. (Sing it again now.)

Yippee kai aie ay.

'Till the break of day.

(You'd better watch out for those man-eating jackrabbits... And that killer cacti!)

Hey Dude!"
