Has anyone ever heard of a Native American named Tonto?

The fictional character was given the name "Tonto". They did not use advisers of ethnic races at that time. The name Tonto in Spanish means "stupid or hard headed". Here is the website I found that may help clear it up for you as well as the word Kemosabe

Hi yo Silver, Awaaaaaay!

Has anyone ever heard of a Native American named Tonto?
There were movies and then a TV series about "The Lone Ranger". In the tale, a group of Texas Rangers were killed by a gang of outlaws. Only one wounded man survived. He soon met a Native American named Tonto. They rode together afterward. LR used silver bullets, and the "William Tell Overture" was his theme song. His horse was named Silver. he yelled, "Hi ho, Silver, away!" at the end of each TV show.
