It looks like Greek, and would mean good repute or nice talk.

Are you or black descent? Many cultured slave owners gave Greek names to their slaves, some pretty unusual like this one.
Reply:Gender: Feminine spelling is different though

Usage: Ancient Greek, English

Pronounced: yoo-FEM-ee-a (English)

Means "to speak well", derived from Greek eu "good" and phenai "to speak". Saint Euphemia was an early martyr who was burnt at the stake. only other meaning is as follows Many of the Asiatic and Australian species belong to the genus Paleornis; others belong to Polytelis, Platycercus, Psephotus, Euphema, and allied genera. The American parrakeet's mostly belong to the genus Conurus, as the Carolina parakeet (Conurus Carolinensis).

Reply:It is not Native American - It is a very old fashioned name
Reply:This is NOT a "Native American" name. It is Greek as a previous answer points out.
Reply:Euphemia comes from Greek, and means "good repute".
Reply:This isn't a Native American word, and after some research I think it's derived from the acient Greek words euphemismos which means "well spoken" or euphemia which means "use of good words. It is probably a misspelling of euphemia.
