Why does Indians in Asia and native american Indians have the same name?

I just noticed and It made me wonder.

Why does Indians in Asia and native american Indians have the same name?
b/c the founder of the current american education system (i.e. most Americans can't find America on a map) Columbus, got lost and thought he landed in India when he landed in the U.S., and called the Native Americans, Indians
Reply:When Christopher Columbus sailed to America he thought he was in India so he called the natives of the land Indians, so I guess since there was a place called India they called the people there Indian as well.
Reply:when the first explorers came to america they thought that it was india evev after they noticed there mistake the name just stuck with us
