How do I get a Native American name?
The ONLY way to get your name is through an elder or other person of your tribe. Your name is your name and will be the same in Cherokee or Apache. If it is "waterbug" or something like that, it will be waterbug in the Cherokee language and waterbug in the Apache language. Your name wouldn't change, just the language you speak it in. I've seen some of the on-line name generators, they are a joke. Anyone who sells you a name online is in it for the money. You may as well give your money to Drampor if you're going to go that route.
Reply:Yes, according to friends...that would be rather disrespectful of your cultures to just up and name yourself. Trying to get it online isn't any better. What legitimate person could do that for you?
Reply:You have to talk to a Native American Medicine man or woman.

They can get you a name.

I don't think you can really get one online, they have to get to know you personally to get you a name.

It's not just go and get it thing.
Reply:I'll throw one out, "Black Cloud". that's a cool name and you didn't name your self, it just came out of the Internet, inspired by the Boreal forest of canada's wilderness where I live in the woods with my wife, who maybe part Cherokee herself.
Reply:here's a site you might like to learn more about your ancestory
