How can one find out if their family name has a poll number on the Native American Indian registry?

If you know the specific roll you are looking for, you can usually find it online. For example The Dawes Roll (Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek %26amp; Seminole) can be found here: http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/fi...

How can one find out if their family name has a poll number on the Native American Indian registry?
First off, it's ROLL number. ROLL numbers are maintained by individual tribes. My enROLLment number is maintained by my tribe. My husband's enROLLment number is maintained by his tribe. My tribe does not keep track of his tribe's enROLLment and vice versa.

To find out if anyone in your family was enROLLed, you need to contact the modern day government of the tribe from which your family descends. The US Bureau of Indian Affairs or any other state or federal government agencey DOES NOT maintain this data. Tribes maintain data for individuals who were/are enROLLed. If an individual did not enROLL, the tribe would not have information on that person. You would only find the enROLLment information for your ancestor if they enROLLed with a tribe. The enROLLment information would be maintained by that specific tribe and no other.
Reply:Poll number??? What do you mean exactly the family history?? Hmmmm, well i'm apache so i would check the tribal records or archives and see what you get there. They also have the main archive building in Golden, Colorado i belive. Sister has been there calls it the Federal Center or Federal Building. Good luck though.
Reply:my son is 1/2 kiowa-apachee, and I had to contact my local indian affairs dept. I would check there first. Call information and request that number for your county or surrounding county. Or you may google it.

I would put in the box, maybe - indian heritage. or something like that.
