Help with anglicized Native American name please?

My ancestor was most likely Algonquin/Algonquin born around 1618-1624 in Pre-Roxbury, Ma. (not established till 1630) and her name was anglicized to Elizabeth Crooke. I am at a dead end in my research, any suggestions? Because of the times being as they were, she may have had a mix of Iroquois as well. I have had both stories passed down through folklore, as have many generations and branches of my family. Please help...thanks

What are you looking for? What her name was before she married John? You might have to go to MA Her people might not have any written records at that time.

Reply:In order to confirm anything, you must have ORIGINAL records. For that time frame, that is pushing things. The above info seems to have a marriage and death, but unless backed up, the birth is more likely to be an estimate.

Another possible source is looking into historical background for the vicinity, and MAYBE linking her that way to her original family. If you find anything like that, then it may point to original documentation.. if they exist.

Being as that is very much a settlement time, you'll also want to look closely at the original families in the neighborhood.. and see if any of those include her or rule her out.
