Help finding Native American name for tattoo!!?

I am getting a tattoo and I would really like it to be of my Native American name. My name is Ashley and I am of Mohawk Indian descent. I am trying to find the Mohawk alphabet, or the translation of Ashley to Indian. Does anyone know of a website that I can find this information? Thank you

Siyo Ashley Cool is right. Many anglo names do not translate directly. Your best bet is to research the anglo meaning of your name and then google a Mohawk language site for a translation. As far as I know there is no written Mohawk language so the word would still be in european phonetics. Also you might want to research traditional Mohawk designs and tatooing practices for something more appropriate. Who knows, you might get lucky and find a symbol with the same meaning. Hope this helps. Wado, Jisdu
Reply:If you have a 'Native American name,' then shouldn't you be able to ask Mohawk relatives for help?

If you only mean the name Ashley, names don't have translations except from the countries an original version of the name originated from.

The best you could do would be to know the meaning and translate THAT. At least in that way the meaning of your name is already yours.

"Lives in the ash tree grove"

"Ash tree clearing"

So, maybe finding the wording for something like "Ash Tree" would work.
Reply:There's really no way to do that. And if you don't have a family member alive that knows how to spell in Mohawk, chances are you're not even enough Native American to count.
Reply:Anglo names DO NOT translate directly into any of the Native Languages..... And still in this day many of the languages are still unwritten anyway....
