I am black but with mixed native american.I want to name my daughter Maria Cheyenne, how does that sound to u?

Her father is black and cuban, I got the Maria part from his cuban heritage and the Cheyenne part from the native american side. Does this name sound okay for a mixed race child who society will probably view as black? Me and her father look exclusively black, and assuming the child will too, will the name fit?

I think it's perfect. It will remind her, through life, all that she comes from, and will allow others the opportunity to see her for more than her skin color.

You have obviously put a lot of thought into giving your child names that would honor her heritage....


But, lets not forget the last name....


Say all 3 names OUT LOUD to hear how they flow.....Then just the first %26amp; last OUT LOUD for the same flow....





Remember kids can be down right NASTY when it comes to names %26amp; school!!!





Tip~ Can you PROVE that you are American Indian?? If you can prove that you are decendent from a particular time you need to get Proper Documentation from that Tribe, which includes registration with the Tribe and obtaining a Tribal Card.... The Criteria for PROOF is VERY MINIMAL!!!





If you are able to register %26amp; obtain a Tribal Card for yourself then your daughter would be entitled as well....





This will open MANY...MANY...doors in regards to school %26amp; higher education...just to name a few....

Reply:My daughter has a similar background to you (but 50% Caucasian as well). I think Maria Cheyenne is a beautiful name. :) I know a little girl whose first name is Cheyenne and people call her "Shy" for short. Good luck and blessings on you and your little family!!! :) (P.S. Reply:The names are beautiful no matter what your ethnic or racial background and I am sure that your daughter will be too. Names are supposed to be special and significant to the parents and child, no matter if anyone else knows the reason behind them. My son's middle name was my father-in-law's first name. My first daughter's name is a combination of my name and her father's name. My second daughter's middle name is my mother-in-law's middle name. But most people just hear their names and think how pretty they are. The same will be true of your daughter's name.
