Native american last name NIGGIE?

I'm trying to fine out what tribe my Great , Great GrandMothers was from. her last name was "NIGGIE" we are from NC. Thanks for any help.

Can you verify the document which shows this as a last name? I do not see it in my usual sources, including anyone of the name in the US in 1880.


In addition... if you had a relative (of any name) who is/was Native american, it does NOT indicate that to be a Native American name. For example... it might be that John Jones, born in England, had 10 sons. ONE of those sons could have married a Native American, thus HIS descendants would be legitimately Native lineage. The other 9 families, with the same name, would not.


Can you provide an exact name and approx date for her, from some kind of valid record? If not her, one of her children. If there is some documentation, it usually can be built on.
