If you named yourself a Native American name, what would it be, and Why?
I have a Native/Spirit Name

We only use our spirit name when we pray, in our ceremonies or when we are honored in some way.

Any other time we use our English/government name.

Edit

CIH(Ret) - That just more racist propaganda.

You can read how some Native Nations names are given.

.
Reply:Being Native American, I already have a Native American name. I asked my mother why she chose that name and she told me that it was given to me by our local medicine man. It was the custom for him to name all babies in our tribe. He named my sister Morning Dove and my brother Soaring Eagle. I asked him why he chose those names and he told me that when a baby was born he named it after the first thing he saw as he went outside. Then he looked at me and asked "Tell me, Two Dogs Screwing, why do you ask me these things? I have an English name but when I go home, I ask them to just call me Two Dogs.
Reply:I already have one given to me by my grandfather at the age of 9 . It is "Cat of Four Winds". My grandmother explained that I was like a cat who was going in 4 directions at once. Always seeking knowledge and truth but with friends trying to pull in opposite directions. Obviously I landed on my feet at some point. Never been arrested, in jail or any tickets. Always had good job.
Reply:I have no idea, there is more to getting a Native American name than just coming up with something off the top of my head.

I do know a medicine woman that has given my kids a name but I have never done it.
Reply:I had an experience (incident) involving a blinding snowstorm and an owl. That is when the Snowy Owl became my totem. My Hunkpapa name would probably be something like Frosted Feathers.
