im giving my grand daughter her native american name, and im trying to find it under the native american tougne, and yes i am native american, choctaw in fact,,thanks for the help
Who can tell me the native american name for winters fawn?
I take it your Choctaw by blood but not culture. If you want your grand daughter to be named correctly, I STRONGLY suggest you take her back to the rez and have it done RIGHT.
There is no 'native american language" Choctaw is it's own language just as Miwok is it's own.
Do NOT take the short cut and get it online.
Imagine meeting up with one of your elders and pronouncing the name and it turns out you just insulted them. . . example. Coca Cola in japanese means "bite the wax tadpole"
Reply:Then learn your language or ask some of your people who know the language, like maybe some traditional elders... there is no "THE Native American tongue"...this all just makes me suspicious...
Reply:Native American applies to multiple tribes. If you are Choctaw, you should research that tribe. There are all kinds of things on the Internet, you can utilize your public library, find out where the Choctaw originated %26amp; contact that state or areas history or tourism information sites. Check language %26amp; symbolism headings.
Reply:I am EasternBand Cherokee and Oglala Lakota.....I have to agree with TwoCrows on this......going to meet your elders of your nation is the best thing you could do....most of these people who have Indian web sites on the internet are fake...not who they claim to be....some even have no blood ties.....alot of them have the wrong infomation on here cause they think because they read a book.....it gives them the right to post things that have nothing to do with some cultures.....for example....I am also eastern Cherokee....if we say (thank you) in my language it is "sgi' but if you say "Wado" lol you are talking about a mans privates........wado is Western for thank you....not eastern.....but I sugguest you get in touch with your people and find out the right way......on the internet ....is not the right way.....
